“If an affluent, highly educated nation, which has the technological proficiency to achieve manned space flights and a sense of manifest destiny sufficient to permit it to involve enormous qualities of its resources and manpower in the affairs of nations on the other side of the globe, cannot or will not eradicate the poverty and slums in its midst, then it not only will have no future, it does not deserve one.”
